Zeiss ZE 135mm f/2 APO Sonnar for Canon

Available Today

The Zeiss 135mm f/2 APO Sonnar is Zeiss’ longest offering in the ZE lineup yet. At 135mm and with a maximum aperture of f/2, many photographers’ wishes have been answered. Offering outstanding clarity of detail, high contrast, and high resolution at any aperture, the Zeiss 135mm f/2 APO Sonnar is a perfect choice for medium-range portraits, landscape, and reportage photography.

The Zeiss 135mm f/2 APO Sonnar can capture subjects up to a scale of 1:4 and has been built based on Carl Zeiss’s proven “floating elements” design. The compact telephoto lens features eleven elements in eight groups. Because this lens is an apochromat (APO), chromatic aberrations (axial chromatic aberrations) are corrected with elements of special glass materials with anomalous partial dispersion. The chromatic aberrations are therefore significantly below the defined limits. Bright-dark transitions in the image, and especially highlights, are reproduced almost completely free of color artifacts.

As with all other SLR lenses in the ZE line-up, the Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating, as well as the sophisticated treatment of the elements’ edges with a deep-black special lacquer, make the Zeiss 135mm f/2 APO Sonnar resistant to reflections and stray light.

Zeiss Try and Buy: Rent any ZE lens for 4 days or more, and if you later purchase the same model from us (new-in-box), we will apply the 4-day rental fee toward the purchase price.

The Zeiss 135mm f/2 APO-Sonnar is a superb lens. It has one of the highest resolutions we’ve tested overall and the corners are amazingly good, even wide open. You definitely pay for what you get, though. The Canon 135mm f/2 is a superb lens and while it doesn’t have quite the resolution as the Zeiss wide open, it is less than half the price and autofocuses. (The 135mm f/2 is always on my list of the best value lenses available.)

For video shooters, particularly, this lens is going to be a superb tool. Photographers wanting the very best will be interested, too. The optics are as good as it gets.
