The Canon 28mm f/2.8 IS USM is a small, lightweight wide angle option for Canon DSLRs. It features a built-in Image Stabilizer that offers up to 4-stops of correction, making its f/2.8 aperture plenty fast for many shooting situations. Its ring-type USM focusing motor allows for fast, near silent autofocus performance. It features a rear-focusing design that allows it to remain just 2.02" in length. The image quality produced is quite high, with an aspherical element used to provide high levels of corner sharpness and coated optics to minimize ghosting and flare. This is a wonderful low-cost lens option for both still and video shooters.

It’s small. It’s very sharp, even in the corners. AF is quick and accurate. It has 4 stops of IS. A 28mm f/2.8 prime lens isn’t something most people need everyday. But if you are one of those that do, or if you just need it for tonight’s concert shoot, or whatever, you’ll be very happy with it. I think the 28mm is a bit sharper than the 24, for those of you who are trying to decide between them.
