Leica X2 Compact Camera

The Leica X2 is the update to their original large-sensor compact camera, the Leica X1. While at first glance it appears quite similar to the X1, the updated X2 does offer several important improvements. First, the sensor has been updated to a 16.1MP CMOS APS-C model with an ISO range of 100-12,800. While the lens is the same fixed 24mm f/2.8 Elmarit from the X1 (36mm equivalent), the autofocus performance has been greatly improved, which was a major issue with the X1. The X2 can now keep up with its competition in the autofocus department. It also offers the ability to attach a tiltable, external EVF (not included) for eye-level shooting, rather than being limited to the arm’s out, digital point-and-shoot style shooting.
Build quality has been improved upon, with less of a slick feeling thanks to the new grip covering. The dials have also seen some tweaking, now being a bit more sturdy and less likely to change on accident. Its battery life has also seem an overhaul, now rated at 450 shots per charge compared to the X1’s mere 230 shots per charge (on a good day!). The rear LCD didn’t see an update, so the X2 still has the same 2.7" 230k screen, but it still gets the job done. The X2, like its predecessor, still record in both JPEG and the Adobe DNG RAW format to an SDHD/XC memory card. For a compact, 0.76lb camera offerring DSLR-quality images, the X2 is a great option for those looking for a take-everywhere camera.
