Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 X OIS

Available Today

The Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8 OIS has a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 70-200mm, making it the go-to lens for sports and action shooting. A fast f/2.8 aperture and in-lens Power OIS image stabilizer allow for great low light performance and with a nearly-silent autofocusing motor, the 35-100mm is perfect for both stills and video shooting. It offers a very smooth manual focus ring for manual focus pulls, and its internal focusing design means to lens won’t shift in size when focusing.

The optical design utilizes two ED and one UED glass elements to minimize optical aberrations, with an Ultra High Refractive lens delivering high resolving power with great corner to corner sharpness. To minimize reflections, the 35-100mm incorporates Panasonic’s Nano Surface Coating technology. The lens size is quite compact at a constanst 3.9" in length thanks to both internal zoom and focus. Its metal barrel gives it a solid feel, and the weather sealed design makes it dust and splash-proof.

This is a lens I waited for a long time. An f/2.8 zoom equivalent to the 70-200 f/2.8 lenses that lived on my full-frame SLR cameras. It’s extremely sharp, although it fades in sharpness a bit at the very long end, from about 80mm on up. It’s still excellent there, and if you can stop down to f/4 it’s better than excellent.

It’s also a bit larger than I had hoped, not huge like an standard 4/3 lens on an adapter or anything but it will probably be the largest m4/3 lens you’ve shot with. It’s not perfect by any means but it’s easily the best telephoto zoom you can put on a micro 4/3 camera.
