Zeiss ZM 50mm f/1.5 Sonnar for Leica

The 50mm Sonnar is an extremely compact lens, especially considering its wide aperture. Its design and coatings provide excellent flare resistance and its popular for photojournalism and street photography. With a bit more distortion than the Biogon lenses, it may not be quite as good for architectural work, but then this focal length isn’t particularly suited to that work anyway.
Steve’s Take
One of my favorite 50’s EVER! It is dreamy and classic wide open and by f/2.8, it is as sharp as any Leica equivilant. It is like a Jeckyl and Hyde…two lenses in one! The build is great, feel is nice and it is small and light. It is pretty much resistant to flare and it has that special classic “glow” that is sometimes associated with Leica images. TIP: This lens can exhibit focus shift when shot wide open but its an easy fix. When shooting wide open just nudge the focus forward a tiny bit!
