The Olympus 60mm f/2.8 Macro is a high quality macro lens that’s compatible with Micro 4/3 cameras and camcorders. It long focal length (120mm after sensor crop factor) provides users with a greater working distance for macro work, which is crucial for shooting sensitive subjects such as insects or food. However, its use is not limited to just macro work, as it works great as a short telephoto lens for portraits as well. Its f/2.8 aperture provides for a nice, shallow depth-of-field with smooth background blur. The 60mm f/2.8 Macro features Olympus’s MSC mechanism, allowing silent autofocus for both still and video work.
The optical quality of the 60mm macro is very high, with one ED, two HR and one E-HR elements used to eliminate problematic optical aberrations. The floating-type inner focusing system allows the lens the maintain the same physical length, which is very important if using a lens-mounted macro ring light. It has a close-focus distance of 7.4", providing a true 1:1 image magnification ratio. Other noteable features are a focus distance scale for precision accuracy, focus limit switch to prevent unecessary focus hunting, and weather sealed lens design, providing protection from the elements.
