This 300mm f/4 prime lens is a great choice for a wide range of photography, from general landscape to portraiture. Small enough for travel or hiking with Silent Wave Motor for quick, silent autofocusing. Extra Low Dispersion optical glass elements minimize chromatic aberrations. Takes a 1.4x teleconverter very well, but may have trouble autofocusing with a 2x converter.

This is an extremely useful and underutilized lens. It’s far sharper than the 80-400 zoom at 300mm and with a 1.4x converter becomes a 420mm f/5.6 that’s still about as sharp as the 80-400. Personally I’ll give up the convenience of the zoom for the image quality of the 300 f/4. But I’m in the minority there, most people prefer the zoom.
