![]() Nikon’s original professional level wide angle lens, with SWM for quiet, fast focusing. It provides a full 35 mm frame of coverage so it can be used on full frame cameras. It is known for its very low distortion, even at the widest angles as well as exceptional sharpness. Probably the coolest feature of the lens is an extremely close short focusing distance (10 inches) which allows wide angle close ups. Some say its sharper than the 17-55, but that would be an arguable point. Roger’s take: This is a classic, older generation lens in a most useful focal length. It has a little less barrel distortion and an extra stop of aperture compared to the new 16-35 f/4 VR, but of course lacks VR. DX sensor users generally prefer the 17-55 f/2.8 DX lens. Still this one has its uses: its a bit of a different look than the newer glass and the manual aperture control makes it a favorite of video shooters. Includes Specs:
