Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 for Nikon

The Rokinon (AKA Samyang, AKA Bower) 35mm f1.4 is a manual focus lens with focus autoconfirm chip built in. It has created a lot of conversation being a sharp wide-aperture prime lens at an incredibly attractive price point. It uses hybrid aspheric elements (molded aspheric attached to ground glass) to hopefully give the advantages of aspheric elements without the high cost usually associated with such lenses.

I don’t really care for it at f/1.4 but I like it very well stopped down to f/2.0. I hate to get nonscientific, but it’s not just that it’s less sharp wide open, it also has a bit of a harsh look. Maybe some astigmatism or spherical aberration that disappears when you stop down a bit. It’s not a 35 f/1.4 replacement, but it’s a very nice lens at an excellent price if you don’t mind manually focusing.
