Zeiss ZF.2 18mm f/3.5 for Nikon

The 18mm f/3.5 is the widest prime in the ZF family. The 18 provides low distortion with that wonderful Zeiss contrast and sharpness. The ZF.2 lenses feature an electronic interface (CPU) that enables support of all important camera operating modes such as shutter priority, aperture priority and programmed auto exposure or manual exposure settings on non-AI compatible camera housings. Photographers no longer have to set the parameters in the camera menu as the lens now transmits standard data such as focal length, speed and the aperture setting to the camera. This data can then be viewed in the EXIF data of each picture.

Roger’s take: I’ve enjoyed this lens a lot. It provides good corner to corner resolution and sharpness and that unique Zeiss microcontrast. I find it actually sharper close up compared to at infinity, similar to the Zeiss 25mm. But I’m in the minority there, the professional reviewers haven’t mentioned that. It vignettes pretty significantly on an FX camera even at f/5.6 so I’d plan on shooting in raw to remove that in postprocessing.
