The Sigma fp L Mirrorless is an ultra-compact, modular mirrorless camera with high-performance specs and L-mount lens compatibility and a high-resolution update to the original Sigma fp. Key features include:
61MP full-frame CMOS sensor
Electronic shutter & image stabilization
Updated 42-point hybrid autofocus system
Works with L-mount lenses
What’s Changed? The Sigma fp L Mirrorless has a few noteworthy improvements over its predecessor. Most significant is the new 61MP full-frame sensor, which marks a massive upgrade from the 24.6MP sensor in the original fp. You also get improved autofocus performance and a revised feature set that serves cinematographers and still shooters alike. One thing that hasn’t changed is the compact form factor, which is essentially identical to the first fp. This means that all of the original fp’s accessories also work with the fp L.
61MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor. The fp L is driven by a back-illuminated, 61MP, full-frame, BSI-Bayer, CMOS sensor providing 14-bit color depth and UHD 4K/30p video with 12-Bit CinemaDNG recording catered to color grading human skin tones. The camera supports full-resolution continuous shooting at 10 fps in RAW and JPEG formats. The fp L features a heat sink sandwiched between the LCD and camera body for dissipating heat during extended video recording.
Electronic Shutter & Image Stabilization. To help minimize shake, sound, and lag, The Sigma fp L has completely eliminated the mechanical shutter, employing a full-time electronic shutter with digital image stabilization for a simple, reliable experience.
Updated Hybrid Autofocus System. In addition to heightening the camera’s resolution, the updated sensor incorporates phase-detection autofocus support as part of an intelligent autofocus system. This hybrid autofocus system uses contrast-detection points and phase-detection points for improved speed and accuracy in a range of lighting conditions, and for more efficient tracking of moving subjects. This system is accurate down to -5 RV and has 42 selectable points that you can change via the touchscreen.
Modular Design. Sigma deliberately designed the fp L to be compact and minimal, letting you outfit it with accessories—including hand grips, viewfinders, plates, and a hot-shoe unit—that fit your specific production needs. For example, the EVF-11 Electronic Viewfinder, which we offer as a separate rental item, attaches to the left-hand side of the camera and allows for eye-level monitoring. The fp L’s plain, rectangular body shape makes it compatible with plenty of third-party cages and other rigging accessories.
L-Mount Alliance. This wide-diameter lens mount is a joint collaboration between Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma that’s focused on a line of premium mirrorless cameras & lenses. With a 51.6mm mount diameter and short 20mm flange distance, the L-mount is well-suited for fast-aperture full-frame optics with compact dimensions.
Additional Features. The integrated 3.15-inch 2.1m-dot touchscreen LCD facilitates intuitive control and menu navigation and a top switch lets you easily switch between the CINE and STILL menus and other interface modes. An included HU-11 Hot Shoe Unit lets you use an external flash or other shoe-mounted accessories. There are three 1/4"-20 threaded mounts—two on the sides and one on the bottom, an HDMI Type-D port, and a 3.5mm microphone jack all built into the camera body. You can save custom settings and share them to other fp L camera bodies via a QR code. There’s a single UHS-II SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card slot, and the included BP-51 battery delivers roughly 240 shots per charge.
