Sony Alpha NEX-5n

Sony took the previous NEX-5 model and supercharged it for the new Sony Alpha NEX-5n. With Sony BIONZ processing, images have very low noise with low-light capabilities never before seen in such a small camera. The ISO range now goes from 100 to 25600, giving you the ultimate freedom to shoot in any lighting conditions (note that we said “goes to” not “you should shoot at”).
The new tiltable 3" 921K touch-screen LCD gives users the ability to compose and focus from the screen (and the touch enabled autofocus tracking should actually be quite useful, not just cool). Also, for the speed-hungry, the new 10fps at full 16.1mp gives those interested in capturing action a small camera that can be carried anywhere. Other new improvements include a shorten release time lag, 11 picture effect modes, 25 point auto focus, and improved battery life.
In addition to all of the new still photography features, the NEX-5n gives all new video capabilities. You can now shoot in full 1080/60p AVCHD, as well as 24p, to give you the most freedom for editing.

I was a big fan of the original NEX-5. There were very few lenses here that I didn’t try on it via adapters. When Sony announced the 5n, I thought it was a bit silly of them to put out pretty much the same camera with a different sensor; then I saw there was an optional electronic viewfinder. This combination is awesome! It’s fun to shoot with and the viewfinder allows you to use the camera like a real camera. The major improvements over the last model is a new sensor, which is amazing in low-light, the optional viewfinder, and more customizable buttons.
Personally, I think this camera is the best APS-C sensor camera I’ve seen in low-light performance (Fuji X100 is up there with it). High ISO’s of 3200 in decent light look beautiful. I know a lot of cameras give pretty good results at High ISOs, but even in very low-light, the 5n’s RAW images are still very much usable. That doesn’t happen with too many other APS-C sensor cameras. The autofocus is also pretty good in these minimal lighting conditions as well.
The E-mount lens selection is getting better, but it’s still way behind m4/3 and many other companies. While you can adapt A-mount lenses and get really good performance via the Sony LA-EA2, it’s a bit bulky to carry around and shoot this combo. However, various other lens mounts are within grasp using adapters. The Leica M-mount lenses are definitely a good choice to try. Give it a try, you might just fall in love!
