The Cyber-Shot RX100 boasts an oversized 20.2MP Exmor 1" CMOS Image Sensor with Carl Zeiss 29-105mm f/1.8-4.9 Vario-Sonnar lens. This combination provides a standard ISO range of 125-6400 and features Sony’s Optical SteadyShot with Active mode, allowing the user to capture sharp images in low-light and on the go. It offers manual control options for advanced users, as well as iAUTO mode for those who just want to pick up and shoot. Users have the option to record images in both JPEG and RAW formats for still images, and up to 1080/60P video capture. It offers fast DSLR-like autofocus and 10fps high speed continuous shooting burst mode. The 3" (1229k dots) Xtra Fine LCD with WhiteMagic technology allows users to shoot even in broad daylight without issues of screen visibility.
For even more customization options, the RX100 has a dedicated function button that can be programmed to offer quick adjustments of seven different functions, allowing users to forego menu diving. The RX100 is powered by a rechargable lithium battery and records images to SDHC/XC memory cards (not included). This camera offers quality and features that trump much larger, more expensive options. All in a truly pocket-sized camera.
Please Note: The Sony RX100 does not come with a battery charger. The battery must be charged through the camera.
I’ll make this short and sweet. This is the compact camera I own. Myself. With my money. It took me about 30 minutes to decide what to replace my trusty old Canon G12 with. I don’t leave home without it.
It’s remarkably small, almost too small. It’s image quality is good enough to print and I’m picky about what I’ll print. The lens isn’t as fast as I wish (at f/4.9 at the long end it’s pushing diffraction softness if you stop down much at all) but it’s a very good lens. It focuses quickly, has a ton of funky cool little features, an awesome LCD that I can actually see in sunlight most of the time. And did I mention it has amazing image quality?
The perfect pocket camera.
