The NEX-EA50UH Camcorder is the first in Sony’s new EA line of camcorders designed with event videographers in mind. NEX-EA50 features a newly designed Exmor APS-C CMOS sensor (1.6x crop factor) and captures Full HD 1080p at multiple frame rates to inexpensive SD cards. The camcorder’s native E-mount interfaces with Sony’s growing line-up of NEX lenses and can be used with an assortment of adapters, for near limitless lens options.
Further bridging the gap between traditional video camcorders and DSLRs, the NEX-EA50UH includes a rocker-style zoom lever. The rocker zoom was not only designed to interface with the NEX 18-200mm Power Zoom but also provides state of the art lossless digital zoom. Lossless digital zoom is accomplished by cropping into the image sensor changing the perceived angle-of-view without reducing resolution (specs on this feature are at this time are unspecified).
Combining the features above with 16MP stills, a familiar camcorder form factor, timecode and professional audio recording capabilities, the NEXEA50 is a great new addition to the ever growing arsenal of interchangeable lens camcorders.
The included Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 PZ OSS lens is your standard, run-of-the-mill servo zoom lens for use with NEX E-mount camcorders. It’s essentially the Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS housed in a metal body with servo motor added. It features silent auto-focus, optical image stabilization and an 11x zoom ratio. When used in conjunction with the APS-C sized sensor of Sony NEX camcorders, you’re provided with a 35mm equivalent angle-of-view of 27-300mm. The 18-200mm Power Zoom lens offers the flexibility of a removable lens with the ergonomics and operability of a Handycam camcorder.
