![]() One of Canon’s most popular L-series lenses, the 70-200 f/4 is fairly small and lightweight, making it easy to carry all day. Its image quality is superb. Most even agree it is as sharp as the 70-200 f/2.8. It is a stop slower than its f/2.8 cousins and does not have IS, so another lens may be a better choice if shooting in poor lighting or when fast shutter speeds are desired. The 70-200 f/4L IS is similarly light but includes IS, which might also be a better compromise. Roger’s take: This was my very first “L” lens, and it probably should be yours, too. It’s reasonably small and light, one of the sharpest zooms made, and doesn’t cost much more than a good consumer grade lens. But be aware, it’s a gateway lens — you start shooting with this high quality zoom and pretty soon your other lenses don’t quite seem good enough anymore. Specs:
