STM Motor. The internal stepping autofocus motor supports Canon’s EOS Movie Servo AF, allowing smooth and continuous autofocus during video recording on compatible cameras.

Common Uses. Serves as a good walk-around lens for shooting outdoors in daylight with Canon crop-frame cameras. Its f/4-5.6 aperture is a bit too slow to use in low light, but can be supplemented with fill-flash.
