The Nikon 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED AF-S DX VR is an enthusiast-grade normal- to mid-tele zoom lens designed for Nikon DX DSLRs. Key features include:
Large Focal Range. While it’s not quite an all-in-one superzoom, the 16-80mm f/2.8-4 does offer a 24-120mm equivalent focal range after DX-sensor crop factor. This range covers you from wide landscapes and group portraits out to portrait and limited sports use. The moderately fast f/2.8-4 variable aperture provides great low-light performance at the wide end and decent performance at the slower long end.
Electromagnetic Aperture. The electromagnetic aperture provides greater exposure control stability that’s especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
Autofocus and Vibration Reduction. The 16-80mm f/2.8-4E uses Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor for fast, nearly silent autofocus performance with full-time manual-focus capability and a dedicated switch. There’s built-in vibration reduction with two modes to choose from (normal and active/sports) via dedicated switch.
Optics. The thirteen-group/seventeen-element optical formula includes three aspherical and four ED elements. This combo helps to minimize chromatic aberrations while ensuring a high degree of image sharpness and color accuracy. Fluorine-coated front & rear elements repels water and dirt. Additionally, despite the number of high quality glass elements crammed inside, the 16-80mm is just 3.37" long in storage.
Please Note: Due to the Electromagnetic Aperture mechanism, this lens is not compatible with Nikon D90/D200/D2 DSLRs or older.
