The Blackmagic Design PYXIS 12K (L-Mount) is a high-end, next-generation cinema system that combines a full-frame 12K RGBW sensor with the compact PYXIS 6K body style. Key features include:
- Large-format full-frame sensor
- Open gate 12K in Blackmagic RAW
- 16-stop dynamic range and ISO up to 25,600
- In-body 4" touchscreen HDR monitor
Ultimate Format Flexibility. With a massive 12K sensor, the PYXIS offers a multi-scale shooting experience for creators who need format flexibility without sacrificing quality. Work in 6:5 anamorphic without cropping for a truly cinematic look and capture not only in 12K but also 8K and 4K using the full area of the sensor. There are even modes with perforation film frame standards to match up with classic cinema lenses. This is the same sensor as the URSA Cine but the electronics and processing have been optimized in the PYXIS to better handle large-format imagery and frame rates up to 112 fps.
Exceptional Low-Light Performance. The PYXIS 12K is equipped to handle nearly any shooting environment thanks to its 16-stop dynamic range and maximum 25,600 ISO. It is equipped with an optical low-pass filter designed specifically for the sensor and the color science is of the same quality you would find in much more expensive digital cinema cameras. Special note: this camera lacks built-in ND filters.
Fully Riggable for Any Set. Blackmagic designed the PYXIS 12K with the ambition of creating the world’s most riggable full-frame cinema camera. It has multiple mounting points all over the body and two convenient mounting plates: a standard plate for attaching mics and accessories and an SSD plate for attaching a drive or your phone. The in-body HDR touchscreen eliminates the need for an extra monitor (though there are mounting ports for attaching an optional monitor). It offers access to all the settings, focus assist, the ability to display LUTs, and a wide range of other helpful screen overlays. Settings can also be accessed via physical buttons so that you aren’t reliant on the screen for changing important functions.
Expansive Connectivity. The form factor of the Blackmagic Design PYXIS lends itself to a large offering of connections. It has two CFexpress Type B card slots (supports relay style continuous recording on the second slot, not dual-footage recording), 12G-SDI out, a front USB-C port (for an optional viewfinder), a back USB-C port (for external recording devices or a phone), Timecode, Ethernet, headphone jack, and a mini-XLR port with +48V phantom power for a microphone as well as a 3.5mm option. There are also built-in microphones with an extremely low noise floor and built-in speakers for quick playback review.
Lens Compatibility and Power. With so many shooting formats, both full-frame and Super 35/APS-C L-mount lenses can be paired with this camera, as well as anamorphic lenses. Check out our L-mount cinema lens sets, including the Cooke SP3 Set with 6 professional L-mount primes, or the Sirui 1.6x Anamorphic Set with 4 high-quality anamorphics ranging from 35-100mm. Power the camera with the included 12V DC power cable or with BP-U series batteries, which are available separately. A BP-U100 will get you about 3 hours of runtime.
