While we no longer rent this product, we do carry the Nikon D5600. Additionally, you may find alternatives in the Recommended section on the left-hand side of this page.
The Nikon D5500 is a high-resolution DSLR and has been followed by the next-gen D5600. Key features of the D5500 include:
High-Resolution Sensor. The D5500 is based around a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor. This sensor foregoes the low-pass filter, providing sharper images at the expense of possible moiré. It has the Multi-CAM 4800DX autofocus sensor module, giving the user a fast, 39-point AF system with subject tracking and subject identification. It has a normal ISO range of 100-25,600 and a 5 fps continuous frame rate for capturing fast action.
Flat Picture Profile. The D5500 offers nearly the same video features as the D5300, with up to Full HD 1080/60p recording possible. One key addition is a flat picture profile for more latitude in the editing suite of your choice (not included). The built-in stereo mic, which includes sensitivity adjustment, enables quick and easy audio recording. For improved audio quality, you can plug an external mic into the 3.5mm input.
Upgrades Over the D5300. Besides the flat picture profile, the D5500 now has a touchscreen version of the D5300’s swiveling 3.2-inch 1.04 million-dot rear LCD. Also improved are the ergonomics, with a deeper handgrip and redesigned button layout. The battery life has also been greatly improved; it’s now rated for up to 830 shots per charge. The increased battery life comes at the expense of the built-in GPS module, which has been removed.
Wi-Fi Enabled. The D5500 features the built-in wi-fi that was introduced in the D5300. It records images to SDHC/XC memory cards and uses a rechargeable EN-EL14a battery.
