The Nikon Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S is a versatile super-telephoto prime for Nikon Z-mount cameras. It’s relatively sleek and compact for its focal length. Key features include:
Only for Nikon Z-mount cameras
Versatile, relatively lightweight super-telephoto prime
Up to 5.5 stops of vibration reduction; Synchro VR capable
Stepping autofocus motor; full-time manual focusing
Nikon Z System. The Nikon Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S was designed specifically for cameras in Nikon’s full-frame Z-mount system. Z-mount lenses only work with Z-mount cameras, and Z-mount cameras are only natively compatible with Z-mount lenses.
Versatile Super-Telephoto Prime. The 800mm f/6.3 VR S’s super-telephoto length makes it great for sports, nature, journalism, and wildlife photographers, and for anyone else who needs an extra-long reach. Its reasonably light weight means you can use it on a monopod or even hand-held in short bursts. The f/6.3 aperture isn’t great for low-light shooting, so you’ll probably want to stick with outdoor lighting conditions for best results. While this lens was designed for FX-format cameras, you can also use it with DX-format cameras on which it’ll provide a 1200mm equivalent focal length.

Vibration Reduction. The built-in vibration reduction provides up to five stops of correction for minimizing camera shake at slower shutter speeds and producing sharper results when shooting hand-held. When you pair this lens with compatible cameras that have sensor-shift vibration reduction, you can use Synchro Vibration Reduction, which combines in-body vibration reduction with optical vibration reduction for up to 5.5 stops of compensation.
Stepping-Motor Autofocus System. This lens’s autofocus system uses a stepping motor to provide fast, smooth, nearly silent performance that’s particularly suited to video applications and capturing subjects that are fast moving or noise sensitive. You can use the Memory Set button to save a focus position for instant recall. You also get full-time manual focusing for precision adjustments, while the internal-focusing design means that the lens maintains its length during focusing.
Advanced Optics. The 800mm’s 14-group/22-element optical system includes 1 Phase Fresnel element, 3 extra-low dispersion elements, and 1 short-wavelength refractive element, which combine to promote sharpness and color rendering while limiting chromatic aberrations. A Nano Crystal coating helps keep ghosting, reflections, and flares at bay.
Durable Build. This lens’s durable, moisture-resistant construction means you can use it in adverse conditions without worry. The exposed elements have a fluorine coating to protect them from debris and smearing. The body design focuses the center of gravity around the tripod mount for smooth, responsive panning when you’re using a tripod or monopod.
Intuitive Controls. A programmable control ring lets you adjust manual focus, aperture, or exposure compensation; two assignable L.Fn buttons work in conjunction with cameras’ Fn buttons to let you quickly and seamlessly change exposure settings and other functions; and a Kensington lock support secures the lens in place when you’re shooting remotely.
Teleconverter Compatible. The 800mm is compatible with the Nikon Z TC-1.4x and TC-2x Teleconverters, which will further extend the lens’s reach. Each teleconverter is available as a separate rental item.
