Sony VENICE 2 8K Digital Motion Picture Camera

The Sony VENICE 2 8K is a full-frame, cinema-quality camera with 16+ stop dynamic range, dual-base ISO support, & PL and E-mount lens compatibility that records internally up to 8K/30p to select AXS media. Key features include:

What’s Changed? Unlike the Sony VENICE 6K Digital Motion Picture Camera The VENICE 2 records internally to AXS media for recording up to 8K/29.97p footage without the bulky recorder. Also added is LUT output over SDI and LUT import over Wi-FI/Ethernet. This camera can also be controlled with a computer GUI over Wi-FI/Ethernet.

Full-Frame Cinema. With the likes of ARRI, RED, and Sony in the game, full-frame cinema seems to be here to stay. The Sony VENICE 2 8K Digital Motion Picture Camera is a more than competent option for creating large format, cinema-ready images.

8K Sensor. The star of the show is the full-frame, 36.2 × 24.1mm (43.5mm-diagonal) CMOS sensor with 16+ stops of dynamic range and a maximum effective resolution of 8640 × 5760 pixels. You’ll get shallower depth of field and cleaner low-light images.

Dual-Base ISO. If the large sensor didn’t provide enough of a boost to low-light performance, the dual base ISO feature certainly does. The sensor can be set to a base ISO of 800 in well-lit conditions and bumped up to ISO 3200 for low-light scenarios.

Internal AXS Recording. The camera brain has dual AXS slots that can record X-OCN 8K footage up to 29.97p to select media. Internal recording options also include ProRes 422HQ and ProRes 4444.

Internal 8-Stop ND System. The Venice 2 uses two filter trays to combine six filters into 8 stops of exposure adjustment. The filters are controlled by a servo for fast and accurate switching.

Native E-Mount with PL Adapter. Is it weird that one of the Venice’s more impressive engineering feats is a lens mount? The camera has an always attached locking E-mount, a very versatile mount that can be adapted for lens systems like Canon EF. Sony has made a lens adapter that mounts with six screws over the native E-mount for rock-solid mounting of PL cinema lenses. The PL adapter can transmit Cooke/i data that is saved as metadata.

Installed Upgrades. This rental includes the Full-Frame License and Anamorphic License paid upgrades, and the camera will arrive with them installed. The specs listed on this page reflect the features provided by these upgrades.

Powered by V-Mount. We include an AC adapter with this rental, but the camera also has an attached V-Mount battery plate. No batteries or chargers are included, but we have single Anton Bauer Dionic XT90 V-Mount Batteries and an Anton Bauer Dionic XT90 V-Mount Power Kit 8-Pack available separately.

Q & A

Does this rental include the EVF bracket?

No. We include the EVF bracket with our Sony DVF-EL200 Viewfinder rental.

What’s the deal with interchangeable image sensors?

The 8.6K image sensor and 6K image sensor both feature system compatibility, allowing the user to interchange the image sensor used for operation. The VENICE imager block is also compatible and can be attached to the VENICE 2. Call us if you’re interested in renting the VENICE 2 with a 6K sensor.

Is it possible to use the VENICE 2 for RAW recording that was supported by the Sony AXS-R7 External 4K RAW Recorder for Sony VENICE?

The VENICE 2 does not support RAW recording. The VENICE 2 will only support X-OCN. X-OCN benefits from advancements in compression technology that were not available when Sony RAW was developed. It is both more efficient and can achieve higher image fidelity at comparable data rates.

Can VENICE 2 record two different formats simultaneously?

No. Unlike the VENICE, the VENICE 2 8K does not have that feature.

Where's the E-mount?

The E-mount is found under the PL-mount adapter. Remove the six 2.5mm screws holding on the PL-mount to reveal the E-mount. A E-mount body cap is included for covering the sensor when the PL-mount is not installed.
