Portable Sound with Punch. The Sony X-Series SRS-XP700 is a large Bluetooth speaker with massive versatility. It offers multi-directional coverage that sounds great even when you’re behind it. It’s a bit heavy and bulky but the big bass and bright highs you get out of it makes that worth it. One drawback is that this speaker does not have wheels. However, it does has additional feet for horizontal positioning and two carrying handles. It is equipped with a sensor that will arrange the stereo drivers in a left/right array when on its side.

Light it Up All Night Long. Party lights are built right into the SRS-XP700 and illuminate from either end of the speaker in a variety of patterns, which can be controlled with the companion app. Three-band EQ, MegaBass, and DJ effects are also accessible via the app. If you don’t want to mess with an app, there are several on-board controls, including start/stop, overall volume, MegaBass on/off, Lights on/off, and individual gain dials for the mic and instrument ports (which use quarter-inch jacks, through there is also a 3.5mm audio-in port). Battery life can drop down to only 5 hours if you’re deploying both the LEDs and MegaBass while operating at full volume. That is still pretty great longevity for most events. You get up to 20 hours when the volume is set a bit lower, even with MegaBass and the LEDs still on. Having all those features turned off will give you an astonishing 25 hours of runtime.

Pool-Side Perfect. With an an IPX4 liquid protection rating, this speaker is a solid choice for performances in, say, a Pacific Northwest park, the beach, or anywhere else with unpredictable conditions. Maintain a completely cordless experience by connecting any Bluetooth-compatible phone or tablet. Blast music right off a portable hard drive or USB flash drive from the rear USB-A playback port.

Cool Features & Caveats. This speaker would be a great addition to any karaoke party but please note that this speaker will not connect with a Bluetooth mic directly. If you want to use a wireless mic setup you will need to use a receiver box that can plug into this speaker via quarter-inch or 3.5mm. Need some seriously substantial sound? Sync audio across up to 100 other compatible Bluetooth speakers or create a left/right channel setup with two SRS-XP700s. To group with other speakers, you’ll need the companion app or simply press the Party Connect button. Party Connect does not work with just any Bluetooth speaker.
