How do I purchase more than 3GB of cellular data?

If your shoot will require additional data, it can be added before your order ships at a rate of $8/GB.
Data can be added and billed after shipment for $15/GB, but data added at this point cannot be guaranteed and is subject to throttling or other disruption. We strongly recommend calculating your data needs before placing your order.

How and when will I be billed for data overages?

If you go over your included or pre-purchased amount of data, you’ll be billed at $15/GB.
The $15/GB charge may be billed during the course of the rental, soon after the rental is completed, or weeks later. Of course, if you wish to know sooner how much you owe, reach out to request an update, and we’ll pull the data usage reports for you and we’ll close the loop promptly.
Please note that while billable at $15/GB, extra data is not guaranteed: you could be subject to throttling or disrupted service at any point after you exceed your data limit.
To avoid throttling or disruption in this case, contact customer service during your rental and request to be billed for the additional data you plan to use.

What carrier network does this use for cellular data?

Our Node 4G currently uses the Google Fi network for cellular data. You can check for coverage in your area at this link.

How is data usage calculated between multiple Teradek Nodes on the same order?

Rental orders for more than one unit can choose to allocate the 3GB-per-unit data allowance across the devices on that specific order in varying capacities without any additional charge. In other words, if you use 2.5GB of data on one device and 3.5GB on another, you’ll still be within your combined 2-unit, 6GB data cap.

How much data do I need?

It will depend entirely on what bitrate you have selected as your output from your encoder. Plug your desired bitrate output into this Data Transfer Rate Calculator for a rough estimate of data required per hour of streaming.

How is this powered?

This device draws any needed power through the USB cable. It will shorten battery life on whatever device it is paired with.

Will I need anything else?

Yes. You’ll need a compatible encoder. We recommend the Teradek Cube 755 HEVC/H.264 HD Encoder.
If you do not want to use our data plan, you’ll also need to supply your own full size sim card and data plan.
