The ZWO Seestar S30 Pro is a smart telescope that is operated by the Seestar App and offers updates to the previous S50. Key features include:
4K Sony IMX585 & 586 sensors
30mm objective, 160mm f/5.3 lens
3.4mm objective, 6mm f/1.75 lens
Includes solar filter
Fully Automated. See over 80,000 objects with just your phone or tablet when pairing the Seestar app with this smart telescope. Enjoy one-touch capture of the sun, moon, planets, galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters with automatic noise reduction, instant filtering of light pollution, and AI-assisted post-processing.
Dual Sensors. This smart telescope has a dual-sensor setup. The main one is a back-illuminated Sony IMX585 sensor, which is the same type of sensor used in many high-end security cameras. It is known for its low-light capabilities and large dynamic range, with sensitivity in the near-infrared range. The secondary sensor is the Sony IMX586, a high-end 1/2-inch sensor used originally for industrial inspection cameras. It is positioned vertically inside the S30 Pro for scenes that emphasize both land and sky. This sensor is particularly well-suited for Milky Way shots.
Dual Lenses. Of course two sensors must be accompanied by two lenses! The main optic is a quadruplet lens system, similar to what you find in high-end apochromatic refractor telescopes, that offers a 160mm focal length. The secondary lens is 6mm and produces a 63º field of view. These share a filter wheel that includes an IR Cut filter, a light pollution filter, and a dark field filter. A built-in dew heater prevents fogging and moisture buildup.
Intelligent Features. Designed for both pros and amateurs, the S30 Pro can do all the thinking for you or let you offload images in FITS format for manual processing. It supports ASCOM Alpaca, so software suites can wirelessly control the Seestar S30 Pro. If you just want to get to making images, the app has an AI mode that will do all the de-noising, Dynamic Background Extraction, and image stacking work for you. The app will also handle startup star alignment, finding objects, capturing star trails, and tracking subjects (the S30 Pro can also be used for wildlife). Imagery is stored internally, where you have 128GB of storage, and can be offloaded via USB.
Ultra Portable. The S30 Pro’s capsule-style housing is sleek and futuristic and weighs under four pounds! It has a 3/8"-16 tripod port at the bottom and a magnetic mount for the solar filter. The battery has about a six hour runtime and supports passthrough charging. It is worth noting that this smart telescope is in no way weather resistant and should not be used unless it is clear and dry out. Also take special care when doing solar shooting and follow the app instructions precisely when using the solar filter.
