The Canon 18×50 IS is a sturdy, high-performance pair of binoculars that are extra water resistant. Key features include:
18x magnification, 50mm objective lens
60.3º apparent FOV, 3.7º true FOV
Porro prism optical path
±0.7º stabilization
Image Stabilization. Using a proprietary vari-angle prism, these heavy-duty 18x binoculars feature electronic image stabilization that corrects for hand tremors at ±0.7º in all directions. To use the image stabilization system, you must install two AA batteries (not included). Runtime on a fresh set of lithium batteries is about 8 hours (drops down to 2.5 hours with alkaline). Without power, the Canon 18×50 IS functions as a standard set of binoculars without any IS compensation.
Optics. These binoculars use a Porro prism optical path for a rich depth of field that makes it easier to judge the distance between objects without eye strain, plus it enables a shorter form factor for better handling. Aberrations are corrected for distortion-free views and the wide 60.3º apparent field of view provides an immersive viewing experience. The 2.8mm exit pupil produces bright, high-contrast imagery that’s suitable for dawn, twilight, and dusk.
Build. A textured, strongly water-resistant rubber coating provides rain protection and a sure grip. The center-mounted focus and stabilizer controls offer great ergonomics with easy access for both hands. These are equipped with a standard 1/4"-20 tripod mount and are compatible with 58mm filters. The distance between the eyepiece and your eyes is about 15mm, which is a comfortable amount for seeing the entire field of view without vignetting and is comfortable for those in glasses.
