The Celestron EQ Wedge attaches to the base of select Celestron telescope mounts and converts them from AltZ mode to EQ mode. Key features include:
Enables long exposure astrophotography
Eliminates field rotation
36 lbs payload
Designed for NexStar Evolution and SE size and styling
Essential for Long-Exposure Astrophotography. Tailor-made for NexStar Evolution or SE 6/8 mount telescopes, the Celestron EQ Wedge unlocks more options for your astrophotography. By default, the NexStar tracks celestial objects with its altitude-azimuth (AltZ) motor drive. While objects stay centered in AltZ mode, it does not allow for the telescope to follow them in an arc. Field rotation starts to become very noticeable after about 15-20 seconds and you’ll see star trails in your photography (sometimes you want this, but sometimes you don’t). While AltZ setups are great for planetary viewing, what you really want for taking long exposures when tracking an object is an Equatorial (EQ) setup. This is where the wedge comes in. The Celestron EQ Wedge tilts the telescope’s azimuth axis so that it tracks objects in an arc around the celestial pole.
Easy Installation, Sturdy Design. While large and a bit heavy, the EQ Wedge arrives assembled and installation is fairly straightforward. It lines up over the head of the telescope’s tripod, where it can be secured with the tripod’s three captive screws. The wedge has a payload of up to 36 pounds but it is still recommended to set your latitude and azimuth positions using the built-in knobs prior to mounting the telescope. Adjustments can still be made under the weight of a telescope, it is just harder. Slide the telescope mount onto the other side of the wedge, tighten, and finally attach the telescope.
