Another excellent intro-level camera from Nikon, the D5100 has the same 16.2 Megapixel CMOS crop sensor (DX) with 14-bit conversion as the D7000. It also has a 920,000 pixel variable-angle LCD monitor, shoots 1920 X 1080p HD video with full time autofocus and stereo sound (using an external microphone) manual exposure control at either 24 or 20 frames per second
It has ISO sensitivity of 100 to 6400, and 11 point autofocus system, and can create in-camera HDR (high dynamic range) images for those of you who aren’t over that yet. It also has the usual Nikon goodies: 3D Color Matrix Metering, Scene recognition and gobs of in-camera special effects.
This camera will only provide autofocus with lenses that have a built-in AF motor.
