What’s Changed? Not much, actually- the Sony FX3A (Body Only) offers very minor updates, including a higher-resolution display: 2.35 million dots, up from 1.44 million on the first-gen Sony FX3. Besides that, NFC support and infrared remote receiver functionality have been removed. Everything else, from the cinema-grade recording to the ultra-compact body, remains the same. 4:2:2 10-bit 4K at 60p. This camera can record internal UHD 4K at 60 fps in a high-bitrate 4:2:2 10-bit XAVC-I codec. Lower bitrate 4K/120p recording is available and scaling down to 1080p allows for frame rates up to 240fps.

RAW Video Output. Shoot 16-bit 2K-RAW and 4K-RAW video when paired with compatible recorders like the ATOMOS Ninja V. Recording RAW provides an enormous amount of detail and information, and it gives you over fifteen stops of dynamic range in your footage.

Dual CFexpress Type A Support. This camera supports CFexpress Type A media for the highest bitrate recording and offers a variety of recording options for file spanning and redundancy. The CFexpress slots double as SDXC slots for less demanding frame rates and bitrates.

Built-in Wireless Streaming. Whether controlling via a smartphone or tablet, streaming wirelessly to a client monitor, or wirelessly transferring files to editorial, the FX3A is prepared to handle all of your wireless needs with built-in Wi-Fi.

Center Scan Mode. Center Scan Mode selectively crops a 1,920 × 1,080 image from the sensor’s center, allowing support for traditional Super35 cinema lenses. This gives the camera all the characteristics of a Super 35 film camera and avoids any vignetting. The crop mode also gives you a little extra reach when you need it and 1080p works for your project.

Monitor and Control. You can use Sony’s Monitor & Control app for Android and iOS to turn your smartphone into a wireless video monitor. It lets you use your phone to remotely control the camera, display and control clips from the camera, start and stop recording, adjust white balance, change ISO, adjust color settings, and swap between LUTs.
