The Ricoh GR IV Monochrome is an exclusively black-and-white-shooting compact all-in-one with a massive ISO range and APS-C sensor. Key features include:
25.7MP APS-C BSI CMOS sensor without color array
28mm lens with built-in red contrast filter
53GB of internal storage & microSD slot
Image stabilization & 1080p60 video
Dedicated to Black-and-White. A first for Ricoh and for the GR series, the GR IV Monochrome is equipped with a sensor that lacks both an anti-aliasing filter and a color array filter. This means the camera isn’t just converting your shots into black-and-white. The sensor is recording monochromatic imagery with the right luminance, clarity, and sharpness needed for the format. This camera produces faithful tones for monochrome rendering in a way that is unique from cameras that merely shoot in a black-and-white mode.
Same 28mm Lens with a Twist. There is a lot that is identical between this camera and the standard Ricoh GR IV and one of those features is the lens. Both are 28mm-equivalent with a fast maximum aperture of f/2.8. In the monochrome edition, you get the benefit of a built-in red filter for dramatically high-contrast scenes with uniquely bright results on red objects. In Macro Mode, the GR IV Monochrome boasts close focusing distances of 2.4 to 4.7" and built-in crop modes simulate 35mm and 50mm fields of view, eliminating the need for extra lenses.
Physical Design and Power. The exterior of the camera has been redesigned to match the vibe of shooting with a monochromatic system. It is mostly matte black with an accent of white in button illumination. There are two Image Control buttons to toggle between “Solid”, which has a hard tonal curve, and “Grainy”. As with the standard GR IV, this camera has 53GB of internal memory along with a microSD card slot. The DB-120 battery lasts for approximately 250 shots and the integrated USB-C port allows for in-camera battery charging and data transfer. This camera lacks a viewfinder but the 3" LCD touchscreen promotes increased visibility outdoors thanks to its air gapless design, and is even brighter when the Outdoor Monitor Setting function is on.
Improved Autofocus, Massive ISO Range. Thanks to a revamped processor, the AF performance in the GR IV set is faster with improved face recognition. Low-light focusing is also faster and more accurate and is aided by a native 160-409,600 ISO range. Further rounding out this feature set is a 5-axis Shake Reduction system. Though designed mainly for photography, you can also shoot 1080p video with this camera.
GR Accessories Available. Amp up your image capture with an array of GR-compatible accessories! Available separately, the GR IV Monochrome accepts the GA-1 and GA-3 lens adapters, the GW-4 Wide Conversion Lens (when used with GA-3 adapter), and the GF-2 External Flash.
