The SmallHD 1703 HDR 17-inch Production Monitor is a larger format on-set monitor that comes ready to accept V-Mount batteries. The SmallHD 1703 P3X is the newer version. Key features include:

Not So Small. The SmallHD 1703 is not really all that small anymore. The larger form factor at 17-inch makes it an ideal choice for a client monitor, director’s monitor, or as a multi-view monitor for a video switcher.

Page Builder. First seen on the smaller on-camera SmallHD monitors, Page Builder OS is an easy-to-use GUI that allows you to selectively apply monitoring tools such as waveforms, vectorscopes, multiview, focusing aids, and LUTs on to different pages. You can screen capture and save stills to an SD Card (with a baked in LUT) that can be used later for reference purposes.

Speedy Rail Setup. The RapidRail Shoe-Mount System allows you to quickly mount accessories to the back of the monitor using a standard camera shoe mount style configuration. We provide two RapidRail mounts with the 1703 rental.

Daylight Viewable The 1920×1080 Full HD, 8-bit panel is daylight-viewable with a 1000 cd/m² brightness rating. We also offer the SmallHD Sun Hood for 1700 Series Production Monitors for those really bright days on set. There are two SDI inputs or an HDMI input, each with loop through capability.

V-Mount. This version of the SmallHD 1703 includes an Anton Bauer V-Mount battery plate. To help keep cost down and give you the most flexibility, we do not include any V-Mount batteries or chargers with the rental. However, we do have a variety to choose from that are available to rent separately.

Other Notable Features. There are USB ports mounted at the rear that can power accessories with a maximum draw of 0.5 amps per port. The 1703 can be powered via included AC power cable or V-Mount battery (separate rental item). We’ve bundled the monitor with SmallHD’s C-Stand Mount and Table Stand Kit to give you the most support options, and the unit features sliding top handle to move the monitor around set.

What do I use to hold this big monitor?

We offer a few solutions for this issue. The first one is a mobile work station we’ve put together for shoots where you’re going to be moving around frequently on set and don’t want to continuously need to pick up and move a heavy monitor and stand combo. The Inovativ Scout 37 EVO Equipment Cart Premium Kit gives you everything you need to make this happen.
Alternatively, if you’re going to be stationary most of the time, check out our Avenger 7.3ft Turtle Base C-Stand Twin Kit or the Kupo 6.7-foot Low Mighty Combo Stand for a rock-solid platform on which to mount this monitor.

This stuff looks pretty big and heavy. Are there any items that will help me lighten the load?

Well, there isn’t any magic we can use to make these lighter, but we rent a few carts and hand trucks to help out on your production set. Make sure and check out the Magliner Two-Wheel Folding Straight Frame Hand Truck, the Inovativ Scout 37 EVO Equipment Cart. and the MultiCart RocknRoller R12RT All-Terrain Equipment Cart. These are all items we’ve found invaluable on our own personal productions, and we highly recommend them to customers as well.

Does this rental include HDMI or SDI cables?

This rental doesn’t include any HDMI or SDI cables. You can find our cables here. If you’re unsure about which cord is right for your application, please contact us for verification.

Does this rental include V-Mount batteries and chargers?

To help keep cost down and give you the most flexibility, we do not include any V-Mount batteries or chargers with the rental. However, we do have a variety to choose from that are available to rent separately. See Recommended section on the left-hand side of this page, or click here.
