This is a great lens for pretty much any of the Sony A-mount DSLRs (i.e. not the full-frame a99). It really shines on the new translucent mirror cameras such as the A65 and A77.

The autofocus is very fast and quite accurate. If you need a fast aperture normal range zoom lens, you don’t need to look any further (unless you start talking Sony Zeiss). You’ll get good corner sharpness at f2.8 throughout the zoom range, with f4 giving great corners. There is a bit of vignetting if shooting wide open at 50mm, but it gets better as you stop down. However, a word to the wise – at 16mm, you do have some distortion to deal with, as well as a visible amount of spherochromatism in the corners. Basically, if you’re looking for a wide angle, you may look to a dedicated wide angle lens rather than just using the 16mm end of this lens all the time.
