Couldn't I use this stand with any backdrop?

You could but it would be frustrating. While the hooks on this frame could, in theory, be paired with any backdrop that uses grommets, the distances between the hooks are very particular to the X-Drop backdrop system. The frame is also extremely lightweight, so any backdrop even marginally too thick may send the entire thing over. This frame works optimally with its intended X-Drop backdrops.
