Compact for Content Creation. The PowerShot V1 is a powerful point-and-shoot from Canon’s V-series, which is a line of compact cameras that prioritize mobile video. Along with the EOS R50 V, the V1 offers a feature set specifically catering to online content creators. Unlike the EOS R50 V, which is an interchangeable-lens camera, the V1 is equipped with a versatile 17-52mm (16-50mm for photo) f/2.8-4.5–f/11 lens (equivalent in 35mm terms). What’s more, it sports optical stabilization that stacks with the camera’s Movie Digital IS, a 3-stop ND filter, and close focusing down to just 2 inches.

A Cool Camera, Literally. To keep up with the demands of unlimited recording, the PowerShot V1 features a cooling fan that protects internal components by pulling heat from the 18.7-megapixel (22.3 for photo), 1.4-inch CMOS sensor and processing engine and venting it out the side of the camera.

A Comprehensive Hybrid Solution. Equipped with some of the popular features of the Cinema EOS line, the PowerShot V1 is versatile enough for pros-on-the-go while still being very accessible to novices. The V1 is able to record in Canon Log 3 and has a built-in three-microphone array with windscreen (alongside a Multi-Function Shoe and 3.5mm jack). Delivering 4K60p in a wide selection of formats and frame rates, the V1 satisfies just about any shooting situation. By oversampling from a 5.7K image area, the V1 delivers sharper, cleaner, and more detailed 4K video. For beginners, there are automatic movie presets including Close-up Demo (for e-commerce marketers), Smooth Skin, Movie IS (designed especially for vlogging), and Color Filter with 14 different grading options. The sensor is about the same size as Micro Four Thirds, but with a wider 3:2 aspect ratio, and the DIGIC X processor inherited its AF system from the EOS R6 Mark II.

Smart Ergos and Intuitive Layout. Point-and-shoot style compacts aren’t always the easiest to handle even though they are convenient and lightweight. The V1 tackles this issue with a comfortably deep grip characteristic of DSLRs but without sacrificing portability. This grip also has a front-facing thumb rest designed for a better grip when in selfie mode. The touchscreen is fully articulating and there is a prominent video/photo top switch along with a front tally light. The control ring on the lens is customizable like in many RF-mount lenses. On the minus side, this camera does not offer joystick AF control and instead uses a navigation pad, which many do not find as enjoyable to use.

Versatile Connectivity. This camera is UVC/UAC-compatible, which means you can use it as a webcam to stream live video with the broadcasting software of your choice, directly through social media, or with video conferencing software like Zoom.
